The Glen Waverley Junior Cricket League is a cricket club dedicated to developing junior cricketers in the game of cricket. The club, which was established in 1974, plays at Larpent Reserve, Hammence Street, Glen Waverley (click link for map) Games are played on turf wickets on a modified rules basis designed to ensure equal and fair participation by all players. Each player bats and bowls each match. The competition caters for players in three age groups. Girls are welcome in each of the groups: Under 12 Competition Under 10 Competition Milo Have a Go Program Milo Have-A-Go program for boys & girls aged from 5 to 10 years is Cricket Australia's national development program. It is held for 8 weeks from late October to mid December. Participants receive a kit containing a bat, ball, bucket hat & compact disk with excellent graphic skill development segments (our coaching department says the CD contents are so good it will become compulsory viewing for all new & current players). For the Under-12 and Under-10 competitions, each season starts on the first Saturday of October and ends on the last Saturday in March. Parents are expected to assist with umpiring, scoring, property and canteen, up to 5 times for the season. A duty roster for the various group is drawn up before the first match and is available at this web site. There is a canteen at the ground selling hot dogs, dim sims, drinks, sweets, cordial and crisps. |
